About This Product
This small, porcelain ink stone is meant for making liquid ink from colored ink sticks. With traditional black sumi ink stones, it's hard to see the concentration or hue of a color, so Boku-Undo offers these elegant white stones to make things a bit easier. Try using it with Saiboku Aya ink sticks, as shown in our photos.
To grind ink sticks into liquid ink, start with a spoonful of water on the higher, more textured end of the ink stone. Rub the ink stick in small, mindful circles in the water. No dry powder is created; instead, the ink gradually disperses the water and it gradually becomes thicker and more opaque. When you have a concentrated pool of ink, you can add water and allow the mixture to run into the lower side of the stone, where it's easier to dip a brush.
Measures 2.4" x 3.5". Packaged in a textured yellow storage box. Made in Japan.
