Kakimori B6 Notebook, Atelier #51

One of the perks of living in Tokyo is shopping at Kakimori, where they make custom ring notebooks like this one with a huge variety of covers and paper options. For those of us who don't live around the corner, Kakimori has created this gorgeous line of premade notebooks. Each one is a limited edition, featuring illustrations from local artists on the bookcloth.

Kakimori ring notebooks are sturdy but soft, like a good chair or a good friend. The covers are flexible boards, thick and substantial but not completely rigid. When the front cover is folded back, you can easily write on these notebooks without a table.

The paper stock used in these notebooks is one of our absolute favorites: OK Fools, a high-end Japanese paper known for excellent ink handling and its ornate watermark. It's one of the best in the world for fountain pen users, and it handles many other writing tools equally well. For Kakimori notebooks, the OK Fools stock is printed with light gridlines that enable you to write and draw in the same book.
