Schmincke Mussini
"World-unique" oil colors for magical, luminous painting.
These colors glow.
Nothing compares to the luminous complexity of oil paint. And among the world's many oil colors, none can measure up to the inimitable glow of Schmincke Mussini. The "world-unique" formula combines several distinctive features that can't be found in any other line of oil colors. Each color is individually formulated with dissolved damar resin in perfect balance with a blend of painting oils (walnut, linseed, and safflower) suitable to the particular pigment.
Damar resin, derived from the sap of certain trees in Southeast Asia, gives oil colors a shining, sunlit transparency, allowing you to build your painting in layers without deadening the colors, just like the Old Masters. Thanks to this special formulation, Schmincke offers an industry-leading 44 glazing colors, including iconic shades like Caesar Purple and Byzantine Blue, which simply can't be duplicated by any other brand.
We stock all 108 Mussini colors, plus gorgeous rosewood box sets and all the studio supplies you'll need. Keep scrolling and we'll show you the most important colors and accessories.

Experience Mussini with these distinctive colors:
Caesar purple is more complex and transparent than alizarin crimson, making it a secret weapon for painters who use Mussini.
Our favorite earth green of all time, with a bluish character that suggests moss or dawn-lit foliage.
Commonly found in Byzantine frescos, this dark, intense blue can be applied in deep shadows or diluted for blue-black glazes.
Unbelievably intense but retaining a sense of natural warmth, Mussini Transparent Orange is blazing sunset in a tube.
New to the Schmincke Mussini assortment, Transparent Brilliant Yellow is designed for bright, clear glazes.
An unusually vibrant yellow earth, especially useful in landscape painting but also great for mixing realistic skin tones.
Reinvent your studio with a full Mussini set.

Professional-grade mediums for Mussini:
Thin your oil colors with Diluent N, an odorless turpentine replacement formulated for Mussini.
The heart and soul of oil colors. Linseed oil can be used in different proportions with thinner to achieve different paint textures.
Poppy oil can be used with light colors to produce clearer tones and minimize yellowing over years of display and storage.
For building texture, Schmincke offers this stiff impasto medium in a tube.
Medium W turns Mussini into a water-mixable paint, so you can thin and clean up with water. If you want to get just one medium, this is a simple solution to modifying oils.
Medium W Gel has the same water-mixable properties as Medium W liquid, but in a stiff impasto medium.
Pair Mussini with our favorite studio supplies:
Our preferred vessel for thinner and highly thinned color, this Pyrex beaker cleans up easily and lets you see what's inside.
For removing dry oil color from hard surfaces like glass palettes, a razor blade scraper is the best solution.
You'll be glad you have this little tool for wiping small bits of paint off your canvas and cleaning up the corners of palettes.
This tub of brush soap will save you a fortune in ruined brushes. Pro tip: put some soapy water on your brush right away, then keep it wet until you wash it completely.
Try these handy glass dropper bottles for dispensing small amounts of medium onto your palette for mixing.
Washi tape is the best for masking areas on your surface and protecting areas near your painting.
