Eagle Bank Pen Nib E40 (Vintage)

The "Bank Pen," a large straight pen with a pointed tip, medium width, and medium flex, was a very popular style in the early 20th century. Eagle Pencil was not primarily a manufacturer of steel pens, but they did offer a selection of well-made nibs, including a Bank Pen. It's a great writer and its expressive lines suggest that it would be a lovely sketching tool, too.

Thanks to the protective coating applied to all dip pens (even new ones produced today), these pens are in excellent vintage condition. They've been checked for rust and other defects by our experts and are ready to return to service on your desk.

As with any dip pen, you will need to remove the protective coating so that ink will stick to the nib consistently. To remove the coating, simply dip your new pen in ink a couple of times and wipe it off. Repeat until the ink coats the nib completely and doesn't bead up. This process takes about 15 seconds and only needs to be done once, before you use the pen for the first time.

Founded in 1859 in New York, Eagle Pencil Co. was a big player in the 19th and 20th century rush to produce writing and art supplies domestically. Known mainly for their pencils, which were eventually rebranded "Berol," Eagle Pencil sold many different writing products in its heyday. They're thought to have created the first cartridge fountain pen (it used a glass vial) in the 1890s, and an Eagle subsidiary built the pencil industry's first sawmill in California.
