Esterbrook #1000 Fine Firm Nib (Vintage)

The Esterbrook #1000 is a fine, firm pen for general writing, capable of monoline writing and even mathematical figures if used with a light touch. These ink-sipping nibs last a long time without needing another dip, because the line is fine enough to use very little.

With firm pressure, you can also use the #1000 for calligraphic lettering. It's a nice beginner's pen for those who haven't yet developed the feather touch needed for softer calligraphy pens.

Our batch of #1000s was made in 1945 or 1946. We can be quite specific with the date because our package came with its original insert, and the combination of groove-stamped tines with other markings and package elements only existed in those two years of production.

Thanks to the protective coating applied to all dip pens (even new ones produced today), these pens are in excellent vintage condition. They've been checked for rust and other defects by our experts and are ready to return to service on your desk.

As with any dip pen, you will need to remove the protective coating so that ink will stick to the nib consistently. To remove the coating, simply dip your new pen in ink a couple of times and wipe it off. Repeat until the ink coats the nib completely and doesn't bead up. This process takes about 15 seconds and only needs to be done once, before you use the pen for the first time.
