Glazed ceramic palettes are the gold standard — unlike metal and plastic, glazed ceramic allows water-based paints to spread out and show their true colors. On plastic palettes, the paint simply beads up, so it's hard to mix and evaluate the color.
The Hybrid Mixing Dish, made by Busy Hands Studio in Michigan, can be used for color mixing or brush washing. The inside is glazed white, and the outside is unglazed reddish-brown clay.
