These beautiful, century-old pen nibs were made in Birmingham, England, by the legendary penmaker Josiah Mason (whose pens were also commonly sold under the Perry & Co. brand and others on both sides of the Atlantic.) Silver-plated and finished with an ornamental embossed letter "C" in blue steel, the Congressional Pen was one of the finest stub nibs of the 20th century.

The #28 Congressional has several unique features worth mentioning, both aesthetic and functional. Aesthetically, the Congressional Pen has its embellished "C", a very shiny silver finish, a rare cross-shaped vent hole, a typographically perfect imprint, and a large but elegant shape.

Functionally, the Congressional Pen also has several extras: first, note the hand-grinding, which was a signature part of Birmingham penmaking and which improves the flex, feel, and inkflow of the nib. Second, the Congressional is not a typical flat-cut stub, nor a sharp and temperamental angle-cut stub, but instead has a unique angle-rounded shape that allows for lots of interesting variation.

ABOUT OUR VINTAGE DIP PENS

Thanks to the protective coating applied to all dip pens (even new ones produced today), these pens are in excellent vintage condition. They've been checked for rust and other defects by our experts and are ready to return to service on your desk.

As with any dip pen, you will need to remove the protective coating so that ink will stick to the nib consistently. To remove the coating, simply dip your new pen in ink a couple of times and wipe it off. Repeat until the ink coats the nib completely and doesn't bead up. This process takes about 15 seconds and only needs to be done once, before you use the pen for the first time.
