Oval Nib Ruling Pen

This esoteric little tool is simply a dip pen with a clever nib: under slight tension, adjustable with a metal screw, the two tines of this forked pen can be set to different widths to draw super-sharp, hard-edged lines. With the aid of a straightedge, you can make your own ruled paper with any substrate—a handy tool for calligraphers and letterers of all kinds.

Those neat, straight lines are the original purpose of a ruling pen, hence its name. But they've also been adopted as a creative tool by all kinds of different artists because they can do so many different things. This oval-tipped ruling pen is ground down on the outside of the tines, allowing ink to flow to the sides of the pen for flowing, loose marks.
