- Sumi Ink Stone
Sumi Ink Stone
Made from natural stone, this black sumi ink stone is a traditional and practical tool for grinding solid ink sticks into liquid sumi ink.
To grind ink sticks into liquid ink, start with a spoonful of water on the higher, more textured end of the ink stone. Rub the ink stick in small, mindful circles in the water. No dry powder is created; instead, the ink gradually disperses the water and it gradually becomes thicker and more opaque. When you have a concentrated pool of ink, you can add water and allow the mixture to run into the lower side of the stone, where it's easier to dip a brush.
Measures 3" x 5.4". Made in Japan.
