Black Watercolor Paper Pad, A4

Black watercolor paper is still pretty uncommon, despite the proliferation of water-based metallic paints over the past two decades. Talens' own watercolor brands, like Van Gogh and Rembrandt, now offer dozens of metallic, pearlescent, glitter-infused, and iridescent colors. So it makes sense that they've decided to introduce a dedicated paper pad for these shiny colors.

This is the Van Gogh Black Watercolor Paper Pad, in versatile A4 (8.3" x 11.7") size. The paper is made in Italy, lightly sized and pulp-dyed in deep black. The surface is unusual for watercolor paper but perfect for metallic paints — it's a laid texture, which means it has repeating lines. Metallic pigments settle nicely into these grooves, making it easier to create smooth gradients and solid surfaces.

Each pad is glue-bound on one side and contains 12 sheets of A4 paper.

2024 marks the 125th anniversary of Royal Talens, one of the world's great color houses and one of the Netherlands' great cultural exports of the last century.
