Kakimori's elegant Glass Nib was overwhelmingly popular when it was initially released in 2019; since then, it's been very rare and difficult to obtain. Back then, we were one of the very first retailers to carry Kakimori products in the United States. The Glass Nib of that era was made one-by-one in a glassblowing workshop near Kakimori's Tokyo shop, and we would receive them in quantities of five, occasionally, until the supply finally dried up entirely.

From 2020-2026, we received pretty much constant inquiries about Glass Nib availability. Finally, in autumn 2026, Kakimori announced that a new version, now made from borosilicate glass at a local laboratory glass manufacturer, would be offered in larger quantities. This is the new and improved Kakimori Glass Nib, now with a round collar that's more stable in pen holders & an even smoother, precision-crafted tip.

With this luminous, transparent nib, you can use any fountain pen ink to draw or write freely. The line width is approximately 1.0 mm, a generous ink flow for drawing but a manageable one for writing, too. You can write about one sentence between dips of the pen; ink is held in the grooves by surface tension and it gradually makes its way to the tip. To extend writing, rotate the nib as you use it.

A pen holder is not included; take a look at our selection. The Glass Nib is compatible with all Kakimori pen holders, as well as metal-prong style holders (like Brause) and Tachikawa pen holders. Not compatible with Speedball holders.
