Made in the United States in the mid-20th century, the Parrot #1576 Bulb Point Pen was a staple product from a historic stationery house: Jaclin Stationery of Jaclin, N.Y., whose paper-fastening division (which originally shared the Parrot brand on this pen) was later rebranded as Swingline, the iconic stapler company.

The shape and design of this "bulb point" are similar to any of the "oval point" designs of the day, down to the characteristic baseball-bat-shaped vent hole. The Parrot #1576 features hand-grinding and a bit of flexibility, making it a pleasant pen for all kinds of writing.

Jaclin sold nibs from 1920 through the 1950s — we don't know precisely when during this period these nibs were made. It's also not clear whether Parrot brand nibs were made in-house, which would have been rare, or whether a manufacturing partner was responsible for this nib. (We're always researching and will update this listing if we learn more.)

ABOUT OUR VINTAGE DIP PENS

Thanks to the protective coating applied to all dip pens (even new ones produced today), these pens are in excellent vintage condition. They've been checked for rust and other defects by our experts and are ready to return to service on your desk.

As with any dip pen, you will need to remove the protective coating so that ink will stick to the nib consistently. To remove the coating, simply dip your new pen in ink a couple of times and wipe it off. Repeat until the ink coats the nib completely and doesn't bead up. This process takes about 15 seconds and only needs to be done once, before you use the pen for the first time.
