About This Product
This hand-ground, vintage dip pen was made in Birmingham, England, the global capital of the steel pen trade in the early 20th century. The #2301 was a classic spoon pen, used in offices, schools, banks, etc. across England and the wider world. The very large, baseball-bat-shaped vent hole, elongated body, and upturned tip are all characteristic of "oval point" spoon pens, which were one of the most popular designs in the world.
This particular pen, the #2301 Indent Pen, is a very well-made nib with a large, hand-ground section near the tip, a pleasant and controlled flexibility enhanced by the nib's side cuts, and a large sweet spot under the upturned tip. Perry pens were made at the Josiah Mason works and were considered some of the finest in the industry.
These vintage, never-used nibs are about 80 years old. Thanks to the protective coating applied to all dip pens (even new ones produced today), they are in excellent vintage condition. They've been checked for rust and other defects by our experts and are ready to return to service on your desk.
As with any dip pen, you will need to remove the protective coating so that ink will stick to the nib consistently. To remove the coating, simply dip your new pen in ink a couple of times and wipe it off. Repeat until the ink coats the nib completely and doesn't bead up. This process takes about 15 seconds and only needs to be done once, before you use the pen for the first time.
