About This Product

This stiff, shiny chrome stub was made by a short-lived manufacturer in Northern England in the early 20th century. A competitor to better-known writing stubs (like the Esterbrook Relief Pen and many others in this shape), the "Glydamonth" is an excellent writer with a smooth touch. Presumably the name is intended to mean that these pens would glide for a month of regular writing, and because they are quite stiff they should have a longer life.

You may be interested to know that F.W. Neville and Son also produced a pen called "Wonamonth"—so, we know that Neville & Son enjoyed playful spelling and homonyms. Unfortunately, that's almost all the historical information we could turn up on this rarely-seen vintage make.

We estimate that this pen is 70-80 years old. Thanks to the protective coating applied to all dip pens (even new ones produced today), they are in excellent vintage condition. They've been checked for rust and other defects by our experts and are ready to return to service on your desk.

As with any dip pen, you will need to remove the protective coating so that ink will stick to the nib consistently. To remove the coating, simply dip your new pen in ink a couple of times and wipe it off. Repeat until the ink coats the nib completely and doesn't bead up. This process takes about 15 seconds and only needs to be done once, before you use the pen for the first time.

Sold individually. Made in England.
