This bright white, subtly textured washi paper from Japan is useful for drawing, printmaking, and brush calligraphy. Made from 15% recycled content, Silk Pure White features a pleasantly complex surface that's smooth enough for pens. We tested these sheets with pencil, fountain pen, ink brush, pigment pen, dip pen, and even gouache, and there was no bleedthrough or significant change to the surface.
We liked the contrast between the smooth and rough sides of this paper—both of which handle ink very well. It's just a question of style which side you choose for your project.
