Object Index 09: Elementary Pencil Set, Yellow/Cedar

Object Index is a collection of essential home and office items from our friends at Kakimori in Tokyo. Each Object Index item is cleverly designed and efficiently packaged, with a minimum of fuss and a maximum of fun. Each Object Index product is well-made and highly versatile—worthy of a place in any studio, office, or home workspace.

This is Object Index 09, a collection of Japanese-made writing and drawing tools. The centerpiece of the set is a click-advance lead holder with 2.0 mm graphite lead. Made by Kitaboshi, a family-owned Tokyo pencil manufacturer, this elegant pencil combines brass fittings with a body made from incense cedar. To showcase the natural beauty of the cedar, Kitaboshi applies only a vanishing gradient of colored lacquer over the wood barrel.

The other items in Object Index 09 complement the mechanical pencil nicely: a paper tube filled with replacement 2.0 mm B leads; a portable lead pointer with a canister to catch shavings; and a triangular eraser that's popular with manga artists for its various edges and curved surfaces. It's an outstanding eraser that leaves paper very clean.
