About This Product
Linseed oil, pressed from natural flax, is the gorgeous binder that gives oil colors their luminance and gloss. Schmincke's highly refined, very light linseed oil is unusually high-quality, imparting no color to the paint and suitable for virtually all oil painting styles and techniques.
The traditional method for mixing linseed oil into your paint requires a thinner, like turpentine or Schmincke Diluent N. For your base layer, use only the thinner to create a paper-thin coat of oil color. Then, as you work your way up to the top layer, add larger proportions of linseed oil along with the thinner. This technique is called "fat over lean," and it prevents uneven drying and cracking.
