About This Product
Designed by the painters at Gamblin, these studio knives will change the way you mix and apply heavy-body paint. Made from FSC-certified, sustainably harvested birch, they're lathed into a unique, ergonomic shape and dipped in multiple layers of lovely gloss lacquer. The underside of the handle is flat, so the knife can be placed on the palette without rolling. And the base of the handle (the color-dipped part) is flat too, so it will stand up vertically on its own.
The blades, of course, are the part that paints, and Gamblin has delivered a set of six excellent carbon-steel blades that move paint easily, flex without bending, and clean up easily—over and over again.
Each blade is one piece for durability. It's made from 1.5 mm thick steel that gradually tapers to a crisp edge. The steel has a satin surface that prevents distracting glare. There's no chrome coating or black paint, both of which are at risk of flaking off after using the knife for a year or two.
Use your Gamblin Studio Knife with oil paint, heavy-body acrylic, and thick applications of gouache. Clean it with soap and water, or use Gamsol if you need to remove stubborn oil paint. Safflower oil is also a nice option for solvent-free cleanup.
Available in six different shapes. Sold individually.
