About This Product
Turner & Harrison, founded by a few rogue employees of Esterbrook, was a premium penmaker with a well-established reputation nationwide. Located in Philadelphia, which was Esterbrook's original home before its move to New Jersey, Turner & Harrison produced a huge range of pens under at least a dozen different brands—and that's not counting their pens made for other manufacturers.
This set includes one gold-plated pen, four silver-plated pens, and one plain steel pen—all of which were made with outstanding craft at T&H's Philadelphia factory. The dates of manufacture range from 1920 to 1940, so the average age is about 90 years old. We've individually inspected each pen for rust and other defects, but you will notice individual variation that does not affect the pens' function.
The pens included are: #224 Silver-Plated Bank Pen, #729 Gold-Plated Inflexible Pen, #159 Silver-Plated Fine, #225 Silver-Plated Medium, #257 Silver-Plated Post Office Pen, and the #50 School Pen.
As with any dip pen, you will need to remove the protective coating so that ink will stick to the nib consistently. To remove the coating, simply dip your new pen in ink a couple of times and wipe it off. Repeat until the ink coats the nib completely and doesn't bead up. This process takes about 15 seconds and only needs to be done once, before you use the pen for the first time.
Set of six vintage pens. Made in the United States.
