The black brush is part of Tintoretto's Series 1407, designed in collaboration with noted watercolorist Felice Feltracco. This traditional quill features a wire binding that allows for longer hairs, more absorbency, and the distinctive quill shape. Botanical painters love quills because they can easily transition from a fine point to a wide swell, just like the petals on a flower.
The light brown brush is a Series 897 extra-long dagger, made with gold synthetic fibers that lay down color precisely. The unique shape allows for organic brushstrokes that can suggest the overlapping outlines of foliage with surprisingly few flicks of the wrist.
Finally, the blue brush is a Series 457 Bronze Synthetic, made with Teijin fibers from Japan. These top-quality synthetic hairs produce a smooth, homogenous, and precise mark, and the angled shape offers many possibilities for details and fills.
