Canson Classic Drawing Field Books are tough, high-quality drawing pads with stiff front and back covers for stability in the field. The double wire ring binding is very strong, allowing the Field Book to travel in backpacks and suitcases without damaging the artwork inside. When you flip the front cover around to the back, Canson Field Books are stiff enough to use without a table, so this is the perfect notebook for making sketches at the art museum or on the train.
Inside, these books contain sixty sheets of Canson Classic Cream drawing paper, with a fine-grained ivory white surface, excellent smudge resistance, and great erasability. This 90# paper stock is intended only for dry media, like pencil and charcoal, but in our studio tests, we pushed it to its limits. We tried fountain pen, a light ink wash, pigment pens, and chisel-tipped markers, and everything worked. The ink washes caused some light dimpling, as you'd expect on drawing paper, but fountain pens were no problem, with barely any feathering. And nothing we tried caused bleedthrough to the next page.
