Prepared-for-Dyeing (PFD) Sashiko Thread
PFD (Prepared for Dyeing) Sashiko Thread
This perfectly white sashiko thread has an invisible feature: it's been washed and scoured, saving you the trouble of preparing it for hand-dyeing. The prep steps can be more work than the actual dyeing, especially with threads which can become tangled or damaged during the scouring process. So Olympus has done the work for you: these skeins are ready to dip into your choice of dyes, right away!
Two different styles of PFD sashiko thread are available: 20/6 (six-ply, like the original Olympus sashiko thread in skeins) and 20/3 (three-ply, like the thin Olympus sashiko thread that comes in balls). Both types are offered in three-packs of 20m (65 ft.) skeins, neatly tied to prevent tangling.
100% Cotton Sashiko Thread
For sashiko, embroidery, mending, and quilting, we love the 100% cotton threads from Olympus Japan. These soft, matte threads have more body than embroidery thread, so they're better for the single-line designs found in traditional sashiko. For the same reason, Olympus sashiko threads are a good choice for any ornamental stitching — the lines will be both bold and soft.
About Olympus
Olympus has made cotton threads in Japan for more than a century. In 1908, the company started production of sewing threads, and in 1929 they began making their first embroidery flosses. Each chapter in Olympus' long history has been accompanied by technical advancements, making the threads stronger, more consistent, and more beautiful with each new era.
Olympus threads are carefully produced for color consistency between batches, so fiber artists can rely on these products for the long term.
