About This Product
Hard pastels—also called "artist crayons" or "Conte crayons," after a popular brand—are an essential tool for learning to draw. These sticks have the consistency of compressed charcoal and traditionally come in a range of earth tones and white. These classical tones are ideal for portrait and landscape work, which is why a set of earth-toned artist crayons is a fixture on art class supply lists.
This set of eight, from Austrian manufacturer Cretacolor, is an unusually nice option among artist crayon sets. The traditional colors are all here—white, sanguine, black, and umber—but there are also an additional four brown shades to deepen the palette and offer more variety.
Cretacolor hard pastels are of excellent quality: resistant to breaking, highly consistent, smooth-textured, and blendable. Thanks to the square edges, you can make precise marks with a corner of the pastel or big, loose marks with the broad sides.
Eight pastels per box. Packed in a foam tray to prevent damage. Made in Austria.
