Gamvar Picture Varnish
Perfect one-coat protection for oil & acrylic paintings.
Developed in collaboration with the National Gallery of Art, Gamvar is an easy-to-use varnish that protects oil and acrylic paintings for long-term display. Virtually odorless and requiring no special preparation, Gamvar is a one-step solution for creating an even finish and preventing surface damage for many years. Conservators love Gamvar because it's safely removable with Gamsol, leaving the original paint undamaged.
Once dry, Gamvar is nearly invisible. The main difference you will notice is the evenness of the finish across your entire painting. Gamvar is available in three finishes: gloss, matte, and satin (semi-gloss), so you can choose the look you like best.
How to Use Gamvar:
To apply Gamvar, use a soft, wide brush. Do not spray apply. Use one thin coat over the entire surface, making sure not to leave dry patches or excessively wet patches. Gamvar dries in 24 hours to a tack-free finish.
Coverage:
The 4.2 oz bottle covers about 80 square feet. The 8.5 oz bottle covers about 160 square feet. Since Gamvar is applied in a thin coat, a little goes a long way!

How quickly will my order ship?
Our St. Louis warehouse team is pretty speedy! We generally ship orders within one business day of receiving them. You'll receive a tracking number by email as soon as your order's packed and out the door.
How long will it take to arrive?
We offer shipping estimates for each order at checkout. Please note that these are only our system's best guess — there are many factors that may affect shipping time.
Generally speaking, our parcels take about 2-3 business days to travel to most U.S. addresses once they are shipped.
In a hurry? We offer expedited shipping options, including overnight shipping, at checkout.

Do you accept returns?
Yes — we accept returns of unopened, undamaged items within 30 days of receipt.
If your return is because we made a mistake, we'll pay for the return shipping label. If you're returning an item because you changed your mind, return shipping is at your expense.
